There are two extra large sizes in Chinese brush named by their uses. The first one is 'scroll painting brush', designed for paintings in set of four scrolls hung on side wall of a room. The second one is 'couplet brush', sized for antithetical couplet writing in Chinese calligraphy that hang on side of a central painting scroll in the middle of the wall of the main room.

The use of weasel and leopard hair for brush-making was introduced from Korea. The animal hair from the mountainous region bordering Korea is still the best source for a hard-hair brush today. With the springy hair of leopard in heart, this brush is used in paintings of line drawing.
