The Chinese characters on the ink stick reads “Tessai's painting and calligraphy ink”. In 1914, ink made by a eleventh-generation descendent of Cao Sugong were shown at Tokyo Exposition and awarded a gold medal. In the same year a Japanese painter-calligrapher Tomioka Tessai asked the shop to had his stick made for order.
