Natural stone for seal

Many materials can be used for seal engraving, but pyrophyllite stone is most popular. Prepare the stone surface that will receive a burin by rubbing it against a fine sandpaper in circular motion. You can either paint or transfer a design onto it. To make a transfer, press the stone firmly on a piece of rice paper that large enough to extend an inch beyond its edges; this will leave a mark on the paper. Paint within the contour of the mark with dark ink. Place the paper back onto the stone. Dampen it with clear water. Rub it with fingernail.
