view cartArchives Mi Fu (1051 - 1107) Silk of Sichuan, 1088 Ink on silk, 29 x 284 cm. Chinese calligraphy style in Song dynasty was described as sentimental later by art critics. Mi Fu was a leading figure of the trend. His writing is characterized by both the oblique characters and the agitated and changeful brushstroke. Containing his eight poems of total 657 characters, this hand-scroll was named by its support - the silk of Sichuan Province. What made the silk particular was that it tended to produce drier strokes than that on rice paper and only a few Chinese calligraphy artists in the past ventured to use it.
