Scroll Mounting Technique

Hanging bar sleeves

  1. Cut two strips of white rice paper according to the width of the mounting piece, 6 inches wide for lower hanging bar and 2 1/2 inches wide for upper hanging bar.

  2. With the mounting piece facing up, make two marks by a needle awl at 3/4 inch from the top of the scroll and 2 inches from the bottom of the scroll. Be sure that the marks are in right angle. Align the marks with a steel rule, fold the silk back and press it down into a fast pleat.

  3. Turn the mounting piece facing down and apply semi-thin paste to 1/4 inch of the edge of the pleat.

Unfold the pleat and stick a prepared paper sleeve along the edge. Be sure that the wider paper strip is pasted at the bottom of the scroll.
