Mounting Technique
Mounting tools
- Cutting board. 8 to 9 feet long, 12 to 20 inches wide. Use 3 or 5-ply wood.
- Small cutting board. 8 inches wide, 3 feet long.
- Rulers. Small ruler: 3 feet long, 2.5 inches wide, 1/4 inch thick. Medium ruler: 5 feet long, 3 inches wide, 3/8 inch thick. Large ruler: 9 feet long, 3 inches wide, 3/8 inch thick. To make a ruler, use pinewood for base and glue bamboo strips to both edges of the base with its green side facing out. The finished ruler must be straight and smooth.
- Needle awl. The wood handle of the awl is 2 1/4 inch long and 1/2 inch wide. Cut a groove on two pieces of soft wood. Fit a needle into the groove, leaving 1 inch of its length uncovered, and glue the two pieces of wood together.

- Bamboo knife. Choose a bamboo strip 1 foot long and 3/4 inch wide. Shapen one end of the strip from the middle. Its blade should be 5/8 inch wide and 1/32 inch in thickness. A substitute can be a blade of hacksaw.
- Paste paper. 14 inches long, 10 inches wide. Mount two sheets of red rice paper with their mould screen lines crisscross. Treat it with several coat of polyurethane. Wash it clean and press it flat after each use.
- Waxing stone. Choose a fine grain cobblestone of 1 pound in weight. Polish it with sandpaper and coat it with wax.
- Paste brush, coir brush and cutting knife.

- Other essential tools are steel rule, tweezers, sieve and Chinese brush.
